For some reason, we live in a world characterized by competition, survival of the fittest and all of that, and it is a good thing! Individuals learn, Companies adapt, and ideas evolve.

This has certainly been the case in the gaming world. The recreation of what is arguably the most watched sport on the globe. So this is definitely a big deal.

Normally as a Nigerian football fan, I love to see beautiful goals, dribbles, saves and all. But if the big shots KONAMI and EA claim to be able to capture that passion on a console, it has to be worth your 60$/28K NGN

SO… LET’S GET ON WITH IT ALREADY.

In this Nigerian Gamer review, I am going to talk about 4 fundamental areas, namely

1. The Feel.

2. The Gameplay.

3. The Online Mode.

4. The Fun.

THE FEEL

Of course this is first impression the game makes on you. From the loading screens and menus to the on pitch action and authenticity, FIFA 18 looks amazing and so 2017, I mean it keeps getting fresher, smoother and cleaner making it a real pleasure just scrolling across the menus, celebrations are even livelier with real time camera vibration and all of that.

I really wish the same could be said about PES’s menus and interface, I mean it isn’t a deal breaker but it looks and feels like a carry-over from a former generation of PES’s menu system, especially if you are going to be playing the game a lot thus making it look rather mundane, and for the on pitch atmosphere, FIFA still carries it home but, but PES is slowly but surely closing the gap as we see improvements in the pre-match scenes and goal celebrations, but the mechanics are pretty solid.

And for the graphics and all that eye candy, the demarcation between the games and the actual sport is being chopped away at little by little. This is evident in the textures, attention to detail in both games, although if you seriously want to get the most out of these games, a 4K HDR TV should be utilized. Surely, ten years from now by FIFA/PES 2028 we would be controlling photo-realistic characters (partly due to the emergence of exponentially more powerful gaming devices and all). But for review sake I am going to stick with PES on this part.

Don't get me wrong, these are both beautiful and well-crafted environments to be a part of, but when it comes to THE FEELING, well FIFA 18 is quite noticeably a step ahead.
